Martha was born and raised on the family farm but left the state after graduating from the University of Iowa. She spent years teaching in Denver, Colorado, before returning to Iowa in 2011 to take over the farm. Her story was featured in Practical Farmers of Iowa's Livestock on the Land. Livestock on the Land. Beyond the farm, Martha also works for Practical Farmers of Iowa to help in areas involving land access and farm transition. She is actively involved in several agricultural organizations and works as a group facilitator from time-to-time. She also loves writing, early morning coffee on the back porch, yoga and traveling to the cities to explore new restaurants.
